Smooth Side Passenger Cars
Pennsylvania - East Wind
|
| |
Conceived in the late 1930's to connect the large cities of the Mid-Atlantic with the coastal resorts of New England, The East Wind was a joint effort of the Pennsylvania, New Haven, Boston & Maine and Maine Central railroads. Dressed in its distinctive yellow, black and silver paint, the train's first run began in Washington on June 21st, 1940. Along its route, it would be pulled by Pennsy GG-1's, and NYNH&H, B&M and MeC 4-6-2 Pacifics. |
|
| |
The train ran during the summers of 1940, 1941 and 1942, but restrictions on recreational travel during World War II caused the service to be discontinued. After the war it took to the rails once more, but the wonderful paint scheme was gone forever. |
